Dad loved to fish. We fished together all my life. When the doctor said that it was time to call Hospice at Home I was in shock. How could the man who had always cared for us be dying? Dad and I didn’t talk about it much. We didn’t know what to say. As dad got weaker and stayed home more, we had even less to talk about.

Our Hospice at Home nurse was the first to suggest a fishing trip. I thought there was no way dad could make it - he was so weak now and needed so much help. But, with our nurse, aide, and volunteer we were able to get dad, his wheelchair, and oxygen to a good fishing spot along the river. I spent all day fishing with my dad. As we fished, we talked about his life, his hopes, and his regrets. It was the most important day of our lives…fishing together.
