Christmas Dinner

In the past, Christmas had always been a time for family and friends and a time of great joy for her.  She and a friend would always get together and cook the night before the holiday with music blaring.  It saddened her greatly that it would not be so this year.  Now, in declining health and wheelchair bound, she is unable to engage in such activity.  Unable to work and taking care of her adult developmentally disabled son the means were not there.  There would be no Christmas this year, she and her son had pooled their resources to keep the cable television from being turned off.  Cable TV is their only link to the outside world.  Hospice at Home staff members and her daughter are her only visitors.

Asked what she would be cooking if she could cook again, she listed her favorite meal.  That's all it took.  The SHAH team responded with open hearts.  Her favorite meal of potato salad, greens, macaroni and cheese, and ham was prepared by team members with funds provided by a fellow team member.  Several staff members provided gifts for the family and, on December 24th at 11:00 AM, the cooked dinner and the gifts were provided by team members.  She responded with, "You are some good people".
