Quality of Life

Aristotle said, "The quality of life is determined by its activities."

Our patient was a veteran of the armed services and a man who, in his civilian life, worked three jobs to provide for his family.  He loved to go on outings with his children when able.  Diagnosed with a life-limiting illness, he was staying in an assisted living facility.  He had one wish, to go to the mall one more time and dine in the food court.

The Buchanan Team, with the help of our Life is Precious Program and the office staff of a local mall, was able to grant his desire.  With the help from the mall office arrangements were made for our patient to make one last visit.  On the appointed day, with his daughter, his Hospice at Home aide, and his assisted living facility aide accompanying him, he made his trip to the mall.  What a fabulous time he had!  Several of the merchants gave him a gift card or gift basket and, in the food court, one of the eating establishments generously provided lunch for the entire entourage, even offering seconds and food to take with them.

To say the least, with the help of many people, our Hospice at Home patient experienced a truly memorable moment and quality time and took a well deserved nap in the car on the way home from the mall.
